Frequently asked questions
Everything you'd want to know before signing up your school or your student.
What does KBS Coverage cover?
Accidental damage to school-issued and personal student devices: cracked screens, liquid spills, drops, broken keys, charging port damage, and theft (with police report). Manufacturer defects are covered by the device warranty separately.
Who is KBS Coverage for?
K-12 schools and districts running 1:1 Chromebook or laptop programs, and the parents of students using those devices. Tech directors get a school admin dashboard; parents get their own portal.
How much does coverage cost?
School-year plans typically range $20–$50 per device. Schools can set their own tiers in the portal.
How do claims work?
Parent files a claim in their dashboard. School admin reviews. Once approved, an automatic repair order is created and the parent ships the device to us (or drops it at school). Our technicians repair and ship back.
Can I cover a device that's already broken?
No. We repair it first at a flat rate, then offer coverage going forward. See /broken-device for the repair flow.
What about renewals?
Coverage runs per school year. Parents get email and SMS reminders ~30 days before expiration with a one-click renewal link.
Do you support whole districts?
Yes. District admins see roll-up data across all member schools; each school still has its own branded portal and admin.
How is this different from a warranty?
Warranties cover manufacturing defects. Accidental damage, what actually breaks devices, is not covered by warranty. KBS Coverage covers accidents.
Do parents need to use the school's portal?
It's the recommended path because pricing is better and school staff can verify enrollment. But parents can enroll a personal device directly via /enroll.
